Once a week, we here at MAM, will select one product to shine a light on in order to really give it it's time in the sun and provide a peak behind the curtain into why it is we do what we do. I wanted to start with the March Trumpet design and explain a little bit of how it came to be.
There is an obvious difference in the merch world between brass merch and color guard merch. Brass merch tends to be more, for lack of a better word, masculine. Lots of bold prints and dark colors and thinly veiled references to "being a man". Take a second a google "Trumpet Merch" and look at the images. Here's a helping hand.
The obvious first thing that stands out to me is the general aesthetic. At least half visually reference heavy metal or biker culture. It's WILD. (and see if you can spot the fart joke.) When I was putting together the designs for the marching band collection I know I wanted something different. And thus, the March Trumpet design was born. Because not all of us want to be visually partnered with heavy metal.
Why We Love It
I've said it once and I will say it again and again until the cows come home: we love it because it is different. We love it because we believe in representation across every section. We love it because sometimes people play trumpet who don't want to wear a t-shirt with a fart joke on it. The softness of the design is intentional for a trumpet player who wants something subtle and subtley isn't something often sound in the pageantry merch world.
